Three things I ask before giving a quote
When a business calls and says “how much”, I don’t throw out a number. I need three things.
1. Postcode to postcode
Birmingham to Manchester is easy. Inverness to Truro is not.
Remote postcodes mean fewer drivers nearby and more dead mileage.
What it adds: up to 40% on the base rate.
2. Vehicle type or amount of goods
A single legal document fits in a car boot. Two pallets of machinery parts do not.
- Car / estate: base rate
- Small van: +£30 – £60
- Large van or luton: +£80 – £150
3. Timed slot vs ASAP
ASAP means the driver leaves now and takes the fastest route.
“Deliver by 10am sharp” locks them into a schedule. They might start earlier or turn down other work.
What it adds: £40 – £100, depending how tight the window is. A 9am deadline costs more than a noon deadline.
Real jobs, real costs
Here are three actual deliveries we’ve done. No made‑up numbers.
Legal documents, London to Bristol
Item: Two envelopes, court papers
Vehicle: Car
Requirement: Deliver by 2pm same day
Postcodes: EC1 to BS1
Cost: £195 + VAT
Why £195? The driver waited 20 minutes at pickup for a signature. We charge waiting time. Some couriers leave. We don’t.

How to get a real quote in two minutes
